Arriving in Firenze

On January 18, we finally arrived in Florence! For the first four or so days, we stayed in a hotel while we learned our way around the city, had several orientation and safety meetings and began our intensive Italian course. AIFS has students take a two week, three credit beginning Italian course before regular classes commence. It meets from 9:00 a.m.- 1:00 p.m. five days a week. During the two weeks, they administer a test, midterm, and final. After this two week period, everyone has a normal class schedule with another Italian course built in.

During these four days, the program provided five course dinners for us at various restaurants in Florence. The food here is incredible!

After our time at the hotel was done, we moved into our apartments. Everyone has two to ten roommates, and the apartments are spread out across the city. I live with nine other girls, but the apartments are actually very big and came equipped with a fully furnished and functioning kitchen! There is a small living area, as well as two balconies, an eating/gathering area, and three full bathrooms. Also, we are thankfully very close to the school, so walking to class in the morning takes only five minutes. I share a room with one of my friends from the program, and it's actually much bigger from my room at school!
